Look who’s 9 months!

Ok, perhaps she is SLIGHTLY older than 9 months. But seriously, NOT by much. I was so glad when mom called to schedule this….but then, started racking my brain for ways to make it different. Something they hadn’t had done before. See, this family visits us frequently, and I am always up for the challenge of making sure their sessions never look the same. Today, mission accomplished! I can assure you, neither sister has had this type of session before! Now…to rack my brain for some cool 1 year shots! I already have their Christmas photos planned in my head ;)

We started our session outside the studio!

Then,we moved in to the natural light room…

And ended in the studio! You know, always gotta throw up a traditional shot every now and again :)

A fairy in the flowers

This little girl couldn’t have been cuter. I told her that she could go do whatever she wanted and she got this look on her face and shouted “REALLY??” I assured her that I would follow her and ask her to sit in a few special places, but she was in charge the rest of the time. She ran off about 10 feet and looked back and said “Um.. hello? You’re supposed to be following me?”
One of the special places I asked her to sit was in a new field of wildflowers. I was sooooo happy that she decided she would even though there were bees all around her that she was scared of.

Miss A. again!

Misses here was our winner for 2008’s best of contest! I’m so glad to see her back again! Her hair is longer, but her face still looks so much like it used to. She sure on the move now though, and wasn’t waiting for us at all! Check her out last year: click here.

A wild and crazy Friday night

These two sisters are amazing! Two hours of pictures, four outfit changes, eight different locations and a really long walk at the end of the night and not a word of complaint out of either of them. One even said “This is the best picture day of my whole life!” and the other replied “Oh yes, you’re so funny, Heather!” The more the evening wore on, the more silly they both got. The older one was totally born to be a rock star or a model; she’s so unconcerned with people watching her. The younger girl is Fancy Nancy through and through; she was all about the pettiskirts. Combined they made wonderful whirlwind of energy that wore me out, and left my face hurting from all the smiling I was doing. Mommy said she booked this session for them because the oldest had just lost her two front teeth and the younger had saved up her money to buy the grape dress for her baby doll (and the easter bunny brought her a matching one)!

Climbing trees is the best

This sweetheart is certainly one of the most amusing clients I’ve had in a while. She’s got a really crazy sense of humor and sure knows how to have fun. I gave her to option of doing the tree climbing ones first or second, but she wanted to do the froofy dress first and then climb trees afterwards. Worked out beautifully, and we sure had a blast out at the Botanical Gardens!

10 days new and sooo sweet

Meet Miss. L! She’s just 10 days old and already holding her head up pretty well. She’s very aware and kept fighting off sleep and HATED to be naked, but her mommy and I eventually won out and got what we wanted anyway. She kept giving me these LOOKS when she was fighting off sleep like “Hey, really, this is not what I signed up for. Who are you and what on earth are you doing to me?” I HAD to grab some shots of this stunning nursery while I was there too; isn’t it amazing?

The furniture fiasco on Friday the 13th

Normally I don’t put much stock in Friday the 13th. I don’t care, refuse the believe in it, nothing. I think I might have to pay attention in the future now. So, one of the mothers who wanted some furniture photos at her place said “Oh, I’m a member of this local flea-market type thing, we can borrow some of their furniture if we want to!”
So I go and pick out this wonderful burgundy couch and matching chair as well as a tall striped orange chair. I’m totally stoked. The woman with the couch tells us time and time again “It’s fragile, so you have to be really careful with it!” No big deal. So we load it up on the truck and haul it out to this beautiful lakefront scene. I shoot the photos I wanted and pick it up to move it since it’s light. I set it CAREFULLY down in the leaves a few feet away and….. *crunch*.. both front legs break off. Oh dear lord, I have just broken a borrowed couch. I calm myself and go back to work shooting because the chair is still fine. I’m convinced the couch can be fixed.
Get the couch back on the truck and go back to the house where we shoot with the orange chair that was also for sale and borrowed for photos. I leave it in the yard and see about the couch while we still have light. One leg can be fixed fine, no issue. The other one, the dowel holding the leg on is totally shot and cannot be fixed. So, since the couch was already on sale, I just bought myself a couch and matching chair set for $350. Not what I really wanted to do this weekend. Go home. It POURS overnight.
Mom who borrowed couch and chairs with me calls Saturday morning to tell me that she talked the lady selling couch down to $225. Thank goodness. Then she tells me that we left the orange chair out overnight. In the rain. So, we may have also bought a second chair. This is just NOT my day, but the photos are worth it.

I am so done hauling furniture outside though, I’ll tell you that.

Miss Q

I borrowed Miss Q. here to practice some studio lighting with. Frankie usually does our studio work (because I’m bad at it), but I wanted to learn and try some ideas I had and her mommy graciously let me steal her for the morning.
