When I was nine, I got a 35mm point-and-click Vivitar camera for Christmas. It was a cheap little $5 plastic thing, but I was in love with it from day one. My sister got an identical camera and we took two entire rolls film of each other that day. As I got older, I held onto that little camera. It went with me all the way through high school. When I went to college, my father gave me his 30 year old manual camera to take a class with, and I was hooked. I still have both cameras to this day.
Over the years, my photographic style has slowly evolved. I prefer my portraits to have a documentary feel to them, capturing who the subject ‘is’, rather than just what they ‘look’ like. Having been a Pre-K teacher, I find it very easy to connect and talk to children. The comfort level is easy to see in the photos.
Photography as a profession allows me to get a glimpse of different children’s worlds. I find it extremely satisfying to capture their natural innocence and beauty as well as providing others with cherished photos of their loved ones. My ultimate goal is that my clients enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.
I head up the Fairytales section of Stylized Portraiture.
